Done!
Alright, that's a wrap. We just passed our final inspection. I will post up some final interior shots in the next couple of weeks. I will also be tracking the utility bills closely and I will report back when I have a decent amount of data collected. Beyond that I will be shifting my terrible writing to my other blog at onesojourner.org. I will be focusing on the happenings around the house, mostly cool little projects like charcoal making, wood gasification, electricity generation, small scale animal husbandry, gardening, permaculture and "stuff".

ReplyDeletejust came across your blog and devouring every post! Actually just went back to the very beginning so I can take the journey properly. I am looking at doing something similar here in the next 12-24 months, so soaking in all the ideas and case studies I can right now.
I would be interested in a couple follow up posts on the utilities, how the home is performing, etc (if it's not too personal).

I should have the first full utility bill in the next week or so and I will post up the results. It is looking like we are going to be just a bit over 1000 kwh.

ReplyDeleteI too just scanned your blog and pictures. Very nice house. I have been specking out a TF formed house. Just curious on your project. Did you use the new Transform or the older system? Also, what type of HVAC system did you go with? (you may have posted that, so if I missed it, I apologize) And finally, were you satisfied with the price of the TF system. Do you think there estimates of increased cost and labor savings is correct?

We did the thermoform. Transform puts all the insulation on the outside of the structure and it uses traditional(ish) metal forms on the inside that have to be pulled. I went with a 2.5 ton heat pump with electric back up strips, but our main heat source will be the wood stove. I am satisfied with TF and I would not hesitate to use them again. Our cost was just under 35k for the forms, concrete, helix and rebar. Labor is where the ICF stuff can get you.
